Recently, Nancy and I went to Chapel Hill, the Carolina Inn, for a few days. We had not been there in years. There were many changes but important things were the same. We were surprised by the good restaurants and unusual grocery stores and by the elegant residential areas, and how much the campus has grown. Across the street from the Carolina Inn was a familiar house and a walk through the old campus was a walk through the fifties to the library, now a rare book repository. New students were being introduced and I had optimistic wishes for them. After several days, we could have remained for more. I recommend the Carolina Inn, morning coffee on the front porch, looking across the street at the DKE house, remembering old friends.

It is a pleasure to be included, especially to receive occasional messages about others. We live in Coumbia, South Carolina where I practice law, specializing in trials, and have somehow held on to the same wife for forty five years-a forgiving woman. We have seven and one-half grandchildren, some here, some in Charleston and some in Waterford, Virginia. We have led interesting lives, which I am told is the greatest blessing. I could catalogue my many accomplishments here were it not certain that those who knew me at Chapel Hill would raise legitimate questions: I am thinking of the final scenes from Animal House. I have good memories of the years there, mostly of the excellent young men who honored me by accepting me into their fraternity, memories which have not only given me pleasure in moments of repose but also given me courage when in doubt.
