We recently asked each of you to take a minute or two to take a brief survey about how Delta Kappa Epsilon UNC made you the man you are today. We got some great answers, so thank you to those of you who participated! Here’s what your brothers had to say when asked “How do DKE’s core values play a role in your life today?”
Alfred Randolph ‘84
“I learned the importance of friendship and loyalty and the lifelong dividends they pay.”
Davis Rainey ‘14
“The core values I learned in the DKE house still remain relevant in my daily life post-graduation. [However], one thing that sticks out to me doesn’t exactly relate to the values, but instead the networking opportunities that DKE provided me with. I recently took a job in Washington, D.C. and was worried about figuring out a housing situation. One older brother heard through the grape vine that I was moving to D.C. and quickly reached out to me, letting me know about a great place to live in Georgetown. I would not have found a place to live as easily as I did without the help of DKE’s network and alumni. So, I am grateful for that and always willing to help a fellow brother in the area.”
D. Reece Williams ‘61
“In retrospect, the qualities of character, competence and good will were pervasive among the brothers, by example, not by rule. As a young man, it was the first time I was unreservedly accepted because of a common bond of core values. The assurance of that acceptance, and knowing that the values continue to be shared, gives me strength and confidence.”
William Lea Palmer ‘59
“1 – Setting standards
2 – Responsibilities
3 – Taking care of oneself and others where applicable”
William Pender ‘58
“Go read Act 1, Scene III in Hamlet – a father’s advice to his son – a great Deke and biblical in character.”
John Rivers ‘67
“Always present.”
Cameron Harris ‘66
“Honesty, teamwork, keep pounding, networking. All important in becoming a worthwhile man willing to give back and share. CMH.”
