Beta’s 2017 Chapter President Tim Cooper ’18 has DKE in his blood. Literally. His father and two brothers are DKE’s as well. He takes pride in his family legacy and in his role to lead the chapter, as well as the strong level of support that our alumni network shows.
“Alumni involvement and support is what keeps this place afloat and successful,” he said. “We love interacting with DKEs of all ages because it increases the brotherhood that really makes this place special.”
Why did you join DKE?
I joined because of the strong brotherhood I recognized during rush. My dad and two brothers were also DKEs so it kind of runs in the blood!
What is your best fraternity memory to date?
Either when we beat Duke last year or beat Syracuse in the Final Four. It was great to celebrate such monumental moments with my fraternity brothers.
Why did you run for election as president of the chapter?
I am honored to lead such an awesome group of young men. This organization has done a lot for me and I just wanted to give back to it. I also wanted to be connected with the great alumni that make our success possible. It has been awesome getting to know these great men. On top of all of this, this experience will help me gain important leadership skills while also helping me tighten my friendships with my fraternity brothers.
What are your top three goals as president?
- Continue to raise academic success
- Increase philanthropy that seeks to also draw non-Greek students to the DKE house, in an attempt to bridge that traditional gap and bring the campus together
- Help guys in the career search by creating a career coaching/mentoring program of older guys to younger guys
What is the most rewarding thing about leading the chapter? The most challenging?
The most rewarding is leading such an awesome group of guys and helping this place be successful. The most challenging is the time commitment that comes with the job coupled with the time commitment of being a full-time student. However, all the rewards are worth this challenge.
In your opinion, what makes DKE stand apart from other fraternities on campus?
Alumni support. Other fraternities are shocked by our high level of alumni support. This is why we can enjoy a lot of the great things we can enjoy.
What are the top three things you’ve gained from DKE so far?
- Leadership Skills
- Greater Friendships
- A closer relationship with our house mother/chef/property manager Meg Miller (she does everything if you haven’t noticed!)
How/why would you encourage alumni to re-engage with the chapter this year?
Alumni involvement and support is what keeps this place afloat and successful. We love interacting with DKEs of all ages because it increases the brotherhood that really makes this place special. We invite all alumni to come back to the DKE house when they are in Chapel Hill, especially for tailgates. We love to hear old stories and share our experiences with you all. We are incredibly thankful for all of the alumni.

I’m a junior from Winston Salem, NC. I’m a Business Administration Major and will be interning this summer with Anheuser-Busch. I love playing music and performing music across Chapel Hill and the state with my band.
