Greek Life Continues to Grow and Give Back…Here’s Why

What Do We Take With Us After Graduation?

Recently, the North-American Interfraternity Conference and National Panhellenic Conference partnered with Gallup to conduct research on the well-being of fraternity and sorority members. These Greek society governing bodies wanted to really know if their members were actually better off after college graduation because of their Greek experiences. And to no surprise, it showed they were. The results showed that respondents who were a part of Greek life in college scored higher in overall well-being, workplace engagement, collegiate support, experiential learning and alumni attachment compared to those not involved in Greek life. However, the success of sorority and fraternity members is not just demonstrated in that poll.

Class of ’68 50th Anniversary Reunion

DKE Brothers and Guests Gather for A Very Memorable Weekend

The class of ’68 held their 50th Anniversary Reunion on the weekend of April 13th-14th and it was one of the most fun and well-attended reunions in recent memory. Twenty-seven of the 31 (still living) brothers from the 1968 pledge class attended! Stories were told, memories were shared and fun was had by all.

Goal Within Reach! $1.124 Million Raised!

Thanks to Him, There’s No “What Might Have Been”

Dave Phillips ’65 Earns 1851 Award for Securing Funding After 1971 Fire

Take a minute to imagine if the DKE house didn’t re-open after a fire destroyed it in 1971. Picture what your memories would look like if the house had vanished, if your experience at UNC didn’t include those iconic columns, or that staircase, or your DKE brothers.

When we asked Trey Adams about Dave Phillips ’65, recipient of the 1851 Award, the first thing he said was, “Without him, we wouldn’t have the chapter house today.”

It’s because of Dave that we don’t have to picture what might have been. But that comes a little later in the story. First, let’s go back to the dire straits after the new house was built.

The Lifelong DKE Connections

Thank you to Berny Gray for sharing this great picture. He writes, “Each summer, half of my pledge class gathers in Roaring Gap. This picture of us was taken a couple of years ago. While we can’t all attend every summer, most of us can convene and tell stories, share family tales, and enjoy the friendships developed by being DKEs. Our pledge class has 100% participation with the Four Corners Campaign because we all cherish the wonderful experiences of the DKE house and the tight bonds emanating from those college years.”

There’s Still Time to Be Recognized!

All pledges and gifts made to the Four Corners Campaign by October 1 will be recognized at our fun-filled campaign celebration during Alumni Weekend on October 7. Make sure that you’re recognized among the generous Beta DKEs who will help to preserve our fraternity’s legacy. Click here to make your pledge or gift.
