We recently asked each of you to reflect on how your life might be different if you hadn’t joined Delta Kappa Epsilon. William Bass ’49 said that if he hadn’t joined DKE, he wouldn’t have nearly as many stories to tell his grandsons, and in another few years, great grandsons.
He shared one of his many DKE stories about a brother named Eddie (who is pictured with William to the left). He says that, at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning in 1940, Eddie was taken to the Chapter Room where he went through the formal ceremony to become a brother. “I was not there, but I have talked with some that were. I feel certain he was the first person of African ancestry to be a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon from either side of the Mason-Dixon Line,” William said.
Thanks for sharing, William! Keep sharing your stories and photos with us here.
