DKE began a strong relationship with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County in 2009 with the construction of the Courtland B. Smith Memorial House. Last spring, DKE was approached by Habitat about building another house. We recruited other fraternities to help fund and build the house since we could accomplish more by working together. The project was named “Brothers for Barbara” in honor of the new homeowner, Barbara Redmond. The founding chapters were DKE, Sigma Chi, Chi Phi, Phi Delt, and Zete. Through the Si Sitterson Memorial Golf Tournament that DKE hosted in April, we raised over $20,000 to contribute to the overall goal of $50,000 to build the house. Hundreds of hours were spent building the home throughout the spring and we officially dedicated the home in September.
