Lifelong Connections with DKE Brothers Have Broadened His Life
Peter Grauer ’64 has made some of his closest friends as an undergraduate at the DKE House, and even met his wife thanks to a DKE mixer! Read his Q&A to see some of his best memories from college and how DKE has affected his life today.
What was your field of study?
Economics.
What made you want to join a fraternity?
A good friend and the fraternity’s reputation.
Are there any particular memories you’d like to share from your undergraduate/alumni years at reunions etc.?
Great Christmas parties, football weekend parties, road trips, pledge training, mixers with girls’ schools, and playing on the Varsity soccer team with fraternity brothers.
What was your involvement with the fraternity like during your undergraduate years?
House Manager, President.
How do you stay involved as an alumnus?
Email and cell phones, alumni board, fall alumni weekends.
Why do you contribute to the chapter financially, and why do you think it is important for other alumni to do so?
Whether it is my time or money, I don’t feel that I will ever give back to the DKE house more than I received. Alumni need support the fraternity so that other young men will have the same opportunity that we all had.
How has your fraternity experience changed/shaped your life?
My connection with fraternity brothers over the years has broadened my life and are some of my closest friends as I head into my Social Security years.
Why would you recommend joining a fraternity to those who may be interested?
It makes a large campus experience smaller, and a group of lifetime friends
Do you still keep in contact with any brothers?
Yes, in fact I am looking forward to a ‘road trip’ in October with three of my pledge brothers.
What is your occupation now?
Retired.
Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married 43 years to a woman that I met at a DKE mixer. We have two sons and a daughter, and 11 grandchildren.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I have enjoyed helping the DKE House meet its challenges and position it for future success. Working with the DKE Alumni board has been a rewarding experience.
