Stuck at Home and Self-Isolating? DKE UNC Has an Assignment for You

It’s time to (metaphorically) get out there and create some connections…

If you’re sitting at home right now, quarantined and following your local stay-at-home orders, and the most exciting parts of your day have been breakfast, walking the dog and watching sitcom reruns on television, then you may feel just a twinge of guilt when you see how some are using their newfound free time.

Maybe a fellow UNC alum in your Facebook feed just completed a complex carpentry project. Maybe you’ve seen the many social posts going around proclaiming how Shakespeare wrote “King Lear” during a plague quarantine or how Newton began developing his theory of gravity during a similar quarantine, and so what’s your excuse?

Whatever the reason, if you’re feeling a little down and unmotivated while self-isolating, you’re not alone. It’s not uncommon to feel a bit morose if you haven’t been as productive as you’d like the past few days or weeks — but that’s also a good thing.

UNC-CHAPEL HILL FRATERNITY DONATES OVER $17,000 IN DUES TO LOCAL CHARITY TO HELP FEED HUNGRY KIDS AFTER SCHOOLS CLOSE DUE TO COVID-19

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at UNC-Chapel Hill donated $17,600 on April 6 to a local nonprofit in order to help feed children in Orange County who normally depend on the breakfast and lunch offered at school for regular meals.

Vance Brice, President of the UNC Delta Kappa Epsilon, Beta Chapter, said: “Many children living in Chapel Hill and Carrboro rely on the breakfast and lunch provided by their public schools. As schools in the area have closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, local communities have struggled to provide these kids with meals and nutrition. This donation represents something we can do to help other members of our community who are affected by this unprecedented crisis.”

10-Year Reunion and DKE Habitat for Humanity Build

In Honor of Courtland Smith

A huge thank you to those who made it to Chapel Hill for a special weekend to celebrate the DKE-Habitat partnership and group construction project! 10 years ago this group of DKE Brothers raised over $125,000, and built a house and created a playground within the Orange County Habitat site in Chapel Hill to honor and forever remember our friend and Brother – Courtland Smith. While coronavirus concerns caused a few last-minute schedule changes, we had a great two days sharing memories of Habitat projects over the years and reuniting with the group that kicked off these efforts a decade ago.

Please join us in Chapel Hill on March 14th to celebrate our 10-Year Partnership with Habitat for Humanity

The Class of 2011 would like to invite current and former DKEs, families, and friends to celebrate our 10-Year Partnership with Habitat for Humanity on March 14th in Chapel Hill!  DKE first established a partnership with Habitat in the Spring of 2010, which kicked off the construction of a house and recreation area at Phoenix Place, in memory of our pledge brother, Courtland Smith.  Generous DKE donors contributed more than $125,000 that spring, and the brothers put in 1,500+ hours of hard work, to make the build a huge success!
